Kannada
Kannada The most notable feature of a Kannada wedding is its simplicity. Earlier, when money and time were aplenty, the wedding celebrations went on for at least four days. But today the number of days depend on the convenience of both the parties concerned. A unique feature of Kannada weddings is testing the abilities of the groom.

First and foremost the alliance between the bride and groom is called as Nischay Tamulam. Then Nandi Puja is performed to ensure that the wedding proceeds without any mishaps. Then the bride’s and groom’s families perform a havan at their respective homes before the groom goes to the bride’s house. The marriage mantras, Mangalashtam are recited. Then Kanyadaan, giving away of the girl to the groom follows. The bride follows the groom seven times around the holy fire, which is called as Saptpadi. Then the girl’s father tries to prevent the groom from going on Kashi Yatra by offering his daughter’s hand in marriage and Vidaii, where the bride’s brother accompanies her to the groom’s house takes place.
