Muhurtam is decided first, which means determining the auspicious part of the day. Then the ceremony called Pendlikoothuru is performed where the bride and groom are anointed with oil and turmeric. Then the groom wears a silver thread, this function is called Snathakam. Then the boy pretends to be going for Kashi Yatra and then the parents of the bride persuade him to come back and offer various gifts. This is followed by Mangala Snaanam, an auspicious bath taken by both the bride and groom. Then the bride performs Puja, called Gauri Puja. Then Ganesh Puja is performed to carry out the function smoothly and without any obstacles. 

The following are some of the rituals followed during a traditional Telugu wedding:-

Kanyadaan : where the girl is given away by her parents. 

Jeelakarra- Bellamu : A paste is applied to the bride and groom's hands. 

Madhuparkam : The boy and girl wear a white dhoti and sari. 

Sumanglis : The girl is accompanied by five pairs of married women. 

Tying of the Mangalsutra : The necklaces symbolising marriage are tied by the bride and groom to each other. 

Kanya Daan Akshata : The couple exchange garlands and are blessed by the elders. 

Saptapadi : The couple takes seven steps together. 

Sthaalipaakam : The groom puts on silver toe rings on the bride's feet. 

Griha Pravesh : The bride enters the groom's house.
